BOSRUG2 Mothers Day Ride,Sunday May 13th

Just a simple reminder.
Ride will be starting at 11:00 am in front of the Watch Factory on Crescent Street in Waltham. Google "The Watch Factory" for its location.
Note: Ride starts at the Watch Factory and not the Watch City Brewery. This has been a misunderstanding in the past.
Hope to see you there!

The Old and the New

Where there were once Raleighs, there are now BMW's!
We went to look at Mini Coopers yesterday after our ride and much to our surprize the dealer was in the old Raleigh building.
I had been in the building before and was delighted to have the chance to go in again. Here are the before and after photos:

Seven Brits Speak Out

When I first started collecting Raleigh's 40 years ago, I was told that the one person to talk to was John Pinkerton. He was in England. I called him and spoke for over an hour. The call cost me around $100. It was one of the best $100 dollars I ever spent. He was loaded with information and spoke in a no BS style.
I hope you enjoy these recordings. Thanks Warren Kobler,They were like finding Gold!

The Raleigh Headset.

There is not much to the design of a headset. A simple bearing that smooth's out the steering of a bicycle. Parts that can be removed and replaced if necessary. Clean and smooth in design and sealed enough to keep dirt from entering the lower bearing race from the front wheel.
slight changes over time, the Raleigh design remained somewhat the same for years.
That said, with all the improvements in the world today and how much better living standards have supposedly become, it really bothers me that the headset on my new Specialized lasted only 7 months when the Headset on my Golden Arrow is still working fine after 70 years!
